PTA mobile registration tax on imported phones — CNIC & passport, FBR 2026-27 slabs.
How it works: every phone brought from abroad must be registered with PTA (DIRBS) before it works on a Pakistani network. The tax depends on the phone's customs value in US dollars — search your phone model above or enter its price in PKR, and the calculator converts it at your exchange rate and applies the official 2026-27 slabs: a fixed regulatory duty, 18% or 25% sales tax, mobile handset levy, and income tax (CNIC registrations only).
2026-27 tax slabs (smartphones):
| Phone value (USD) | Regulatory duty | Sales tax | Handset levy | Income tax (CNIC) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $30 or less | Rs 240 | 18% | Rs 100 | Rs 100 |
| $31 – $100 | Rs 2,400 | 18% | Rs 200 | Rs 100 |
| $101 – $200 | Rs 6,000 | 18% | Rs 200 | Rs 100 |
| $201 – $350 | Rs 8,800 | 18% | Rs 1,800 | Rs 970 |
| $351 – $500 | Rs 12,000 | 18% | Rs 4,000 | Rs 5,000 |
| $501 – $700 | Rs 17,600 | 25% | Rs 8,000 | Rs 11,500 |
| Above $700 | Rs 17,600 | 25% | Rs 16,000 | Rs 11,500 |
CNIC vs passport: passport registration (for overseas Pakistanis) skips income tax entirely and is usually cheaper. Non-filers pay double income tax on CNIC registration.
Estimate only — the exact tax is calculated by PTA's DIRBS system at registration time using the live exchange rate and the phone's assessed customs value, which may differ from the approximate model values above. Confirm with the DIRBS portal or by dialling *8484#. Slabs per FBR SRO 1064(I)/2026, effective 1 July 2026.
PTA tax is based on the phone’s customs value in US dollars. Each value bracket has a fixed regulatory duty, an 18% or 25% sales tax, a mobile handset levy, and (on CNIC) income tax. Enter the phone’s USD value and the exchange rate above for the exact breakdown.
It depends on the iPhone’s customs value. A $1,000+ iPhone falls in the "Above $700" bracket: Rs 17,600 regulatory duty + 25% sales tax + Rs 16,000 handset levy + Rs 11,500 income tax (CNIC) — typically over Rs 100,000 total. Use the calculator above with your phone’s value.
Yes. Passport registration (for overseas Pakistanis) skips income tax entirely and is usually cheaper. On CNIC, income tax applies — and non-filers pay double the income tax amount.
Pay the calculated tax against the PSID payment slip through your bank or mobile banking app, then register the phone’s IMEI on the PTA DIRBS portal. Registration must be completed within 60 days of the phone arriving in Pakistan.
This calculator gives a close estimate using official 2026-27 slabs. For the exact figure, check the PTA DIRBS portal or dial *8484# from your phone — DIRBS computes tax live using the current exchange rate and your phone’s assessed value.
Yes — FBR SRO 1064(I)/2026 cut regulatory duty by about 20% across brackets from 1 July 2026, and slashed income tax in the $101–$200 bracket. Sales tax stayed at 18% (25% above $500). This calculator uses the current 2026-27 slabs.
