Taylor Swift Steals the Spotlight at Academy Museum Gala 2026

Hollywood rolled out one of its glitziest red carpets of the year on October 17, as the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles hosted its sixth annual Academy Museum Gala — an evening often called the “Met Gala of the West.” The fundraiser supports the museum’s mission of preserving film history, and this year’s edition drew an extraordinary roster of stars from film, music and fashion.

The headline grabber was Taylor Swift, who attended both as a guest and as the evening’s featured musical performer. Her appearance continues a remarkable crossover run: from record-breaking stadium tours to becoming a fixture at cinema’s most prestigious gatherings.

The night’s formal honors went to three industry heavyweights. Charlize Theron received the Icon Award for a career that has shaped global cinema; Colman Domingo was presented the Vantage Award for challenging dominant narratives through storytelling; and legendary filmmaker-composer John Carpenter accepted the Luminary Award for expanding the creative boundaries of film.

The guest list read like a who’s who of entertainment: Andrew Garfield, Eddie Redmayne, Pamela Anderson, Maya Hawke, Mia Goth, Kristen Wiig, Olivia Munn and Karlie Kloss were among those photographed on the carpet.

Beyond the glamour, the gala lands at a tense moment for Hollywood. The same weekend, Paramount’s Street Fighter opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office with an estimated $31 million — a modest win for video-game adaptations — while Anne Hathaway’s Verity lost 500 North American theaters in its third weekend despite earning nearly $119 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. The contrast sums up today’s theatrical market: even profitable films get squeezed fast. For more star stories, browse our Did You Know collection of famous people’s ages and bios.
