Quick biography

Timothy James Curry was born on April 19, 1946, in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England. After studying drama and English at the University of Birmingham, he made his West End debut in Hair in 1968 — and in 1973 he created the role that would define cult cinema: Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, reprising it in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Over a career of more than 240 screen and stage credits, he played the flamboyant Rooster in Annie (1982), the Lord of Darkness in Legend (1985), the frantic Wadsworth in Clue (1985), the concierge in Home Alone 2, Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island. He earned three Tony Award nominations on Broadway — Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Spamalot — and on television terrified a generation as Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries It. His voice work was equally iconic: Captain Hook, Hexxus in FernGully, Sir Nigel Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys and Darth Sidious in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
