Quick biography

Sydney Bernice Sweeney was born on September 12, 1997, in Spokane, Washington, and was raised in the Idaho panhandle. As a child she auditioned for a local independent film and, to convince her parents to let her pursue acting, presented them with a five-year business plan. The family later moved to Los Angeles when she was 14 so she could chase screen roles full time.

Her breakthrough came in 2018 with three acclaimed television roles in a single year: Emaline in Netflix’s Everything Sucks!, Eden in The Handmaid’s Tale, and Alice in HBO’s Sharp Objects. The following year she appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and began playing Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria, the emotionally charged role that made her a household name. In 2021 she starred as Olivia Mossbacher in the first season of The White Lotus, earning her first Primetime Emmy nomination, followed by a second in 2022 for Euphoria.
