Noah Strausser Speer Wyle was born on June 4, 1971, in Hollywood, California. After graduating from The Thacher School in Ojai in 1989 and studying acting with Larry Moss, he worked his way through small stage and screen roles, including a supporting part in A Few Good Men (1992), before landing the role that would define a generation of television.
In 1994 he joined the original cast of NBC’s ER as medical student John Carter, growing over 11 seasons into a senior doctor and becoming the show’s longest-serving original regular. The role brought him five consecutive Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations. Between and after ER he played Steve Jobs in Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999), adventurer Flynn Carsen in The Librarian franchise, and resistance leader Tom Mason in Falling Skies (2011–2015).
