Quick biography

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete — Megan Thee Stallion — was born on February 15, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, and raised in Houston. Her mother, Holly Thomas, rapped as Holly-Wood, and Megan grew up steeped in Southern rap, writing rhymes as a teenager and posting freestyle videos that spread fast on social media. The nickname came from her tall, striking build: in Houston slang, a “stallion” is a tall, thick woman, and she made it her stage name.

Her breakthrough ran from the mixtape Fever (2019) through the EP Suga (2020) to her debut album Good News (2020). “Hot Girl Summer” became a viral catchphrase she later trademarked, the Beyoncé remix of “Savage” gave her a first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, and her feature on Cardi B’s “WAP” gave her a second. At the 2021 Grammys she won three awards — Best New Artist, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance — and that same year she graduated from Texas Southern University with a degree in health administration. Traumazine followed in 2022, and her third album, Megan (2024), produced “Hiss”, her first solo Hot 100 No. 1, released on her own label, Hot Girl Productions.
