Bitcoin Sits Below Every Short-Term Average as Ethereum Tests $2,355 Support Ahead of Fed Week
Bitcoin opened Sunday at $80,538, underneath all of its short-term averages, while Ethereum slipped toward $2,355 support as US spot ETH ETFs headed for a fourth straight week of outflows. With the Federal Reserve meeting on October 27-28, traders are watching $79,495 below and $82,077 above.

Bitcoin opened Sunday, October 25, at $80,538 on Binance spot, down a modest 0.32 percent over the previous 24 hours and confined to a $79,221 to $81,034 range. The small move hides the real story: price sits underneath every short-term trend line at once. The 7-day average stands at $81,870, the 20-day at $82,364 and the 50-day at $81,861, while the 12- and 26-period exponential averages sit at $81,872 and $82,149. When all of those sit above price together, the market is describing sustained selling pressure rather than a one-day wobble, though the 200-day average near $72,990 still sits well below.
The supporting indicators tell a mixed but consistent story. Bitcoin sits near the lower Bollinger Band at $79,995, and a 14-day average true range of $2,104 means one ordinary day can span the gap between nearby support and resistance. The 14-period RSI at 43 is neutral rather than panicked, while the Stochastic oscillator has dropped into oversold territory, a combination that often precedes a bounce attempt without guaranteeing one. Momentum is flat: the MACD sits at a negative level with a zero histogram. Derivatives agree with that picture of caution. Open interest on Binance futures has shrunk 1.62 percent in a day to about $7.57 billion, and hourly taker flow leaned heavily toward selling, with 1,978 buy contracts against 2,958 sell contracts.
The rest of the market on Sunday was split rather than uniformly weak. CoinMarketCap data at 10:00 a.m. Korean time put Bitcoin up 0.08 percent at $80,688, with XRP up 1.27 percent to $1.30, while Ethereum slipped 0.84 percent to $2,354, Solana eased 0.03 percent to $102.22, Dogecoin fell 0.88 percent and Avalanche dipped 0.11 percent. The extremes were more dramatic further down the list: privacy coin Monero jumped 7.77 percent to lead the top 100, while Morpho fell 4.89 percent to post the steepest drop. That spread shows capital rotating between individual stories instead of leaving crypto altogether.
Ethereum deserves the closest look of any altcoin this weekend. It fell below $2,400 on Friday, and US spot Ethereum ETFs are heading for a fourth consecutive week of net outflows after another $110.5 million left on Thursday. In the last 18 trading days those funds have recorded inflows only twice, totalling less than $40 million. A separate gauge of US demand points the same way: the Coinbase Premium Index, which compares the price on Coinbase with Binance, has fallen to minus 0.137, its lowest since June, when Ethereum set a cycle low near $1,500. Negative readings mean the coin is cheaper on the US venue, a sign of weaker American buying. Exchange reserves have started climbing again after a brief dip, suggesting more coins are sitting ready to sell.
Why this matters: the two biggest coins are now testing levels that will define the week. For Bitcoin, immediate resistance sits at $81,308 with stronger resistance at $82,077, close to the $82,281 shelf CoinDCX named as a condition for its $82,000 October 31 target; neither condition is currently met. Support below sits at $79,495 and then $78,451. For Ethereum, the line in the sand is $2,355, just under its 100-day average near $2,357; a daily close below that zone would expose $2,205 and lower. What to watch next is the Federal Reserve meeting on October 27 to 28. If Bitcoin reclaims $82,077, the oversold bounce case gains weight; if $79,495 breaks first, the path toward $78,451 opens quickly.
